Fasting
If you are between 18 and 60 years old, you are obligated to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday which means you may take one full meal on these days. You are allowed to snack, as long as these snacks do not constitute another full meal. If you are 14 or older, you are obligated to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays during Lent, and Good Friday. If health or ability to work is seriously affected, the law does not oblige. Talk to one of our priests if you need help discerning how you should fast this lent.
Almsgiving and Service
Star of the Sea is actively involved with the Missionaries of Charity and St. Anthony’s Dining Room and we often meet at Star and serve together. Please contact Jacqueline Paras at (510) 697-9670 if you’d like to serve with Star of the Sea. You may also consider responding to the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal which, among other things, serves many of San Francisco’s needy. Please go to www.starparish.com/aaa or pick up a brochure in the church.
