PLUS Stella Maris Academy: Re-envisioning a classical school for San Francisco

WONDER * JOY * DISCOVERY

These are qualities of the soul that are ablaze in children. Can education that overemphasizes technology and digital learning to the exclusion of inquiry in the liberal arts and sciences feed the soul and shape human character for excellence?

Meet Gavin Colvert, who is re-envisioning the elementary school at Star of the Sea in San Francisco as a classical academy. Hear him share the vision. Whether you are a parent, an educator, a student, or a passionate Catholic, you can participate in this exciting journey to create something new for families in the Bay Area.

Gavin Colvert is the former chairman of the Philosophy Department and Director of the Ecumenical Institute at Assumption University in Worcester, Massachusetts. A native San Franciscan, he received his bachelor’s degree at Santa Clara University and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto. Both he and his wife have served as principals of Catholic schools. He is currently serving as Parish Manager at Star of the Sea while preparing to launch the new Stella Maris Academy.

Meet Michael Ortner, Chairman of the Board of Cana Academy, Former CEO of Capterra Inc. who is a passionate advocate for liberal arts education as a preparation for excellence in industry, science, and technology.

Meet Rosemary Vander Weele, President of Our Lady of Lourdes Classical Academy, Denver, CO., who has successfully transformed a struggling Catholic school into a thriving classical academy.

ABOUT STELLA MARIS ACADEMY

Originally founded in 1909, the grammar school at Star of the Sea Parish in San Francisco is undergoing an exciting process of revitalization that will reinvigorate its 111 year old elementary school as a Catholic classical academy with an integrated academic program. Integrated Catholic liberal education cultivates the full intellectual, moral and spiritual development of young people as whole persons to appreciate beauty, goodness, and truth and to act with integrity in life.

Register today to receive the Zoom link on the day of the event. We are asking for a $25 donation in lieu of a ticket price if you can reasonably afford it. If not, please, join the zoom meeting anyway!
