About Us

Star of the Sea Church is a parish community of the Archdiocese of San Francisco serving the Richmond District and San Francisco at large.  Our parish is particularly devoted to the Blessed Sacrament.

What makes Star of the Sea different?

We’re particularly devoted to the Blessed Sacrament.  We believe that through worship of the Triune God in the Blessed Sacrament, we’re drawn together more profoundly as a community.  This Eucharist strengthens us to go out into the city to perform spiritual and corporal acts of mercy.

This is why we keep our church doors open from 6:00am till 7:00pm from Monday through Sunday.  We want everyone to feel welcome to come into God’s house for silent prayer.

In fact, we currently have San Francisco’s first 24/7 Parish Perpetual Adoration chapel.

Star of the Sea Church is one of the few churches that offer the Mass in two forms: the Ordinary Form and the Extraordinary Form. In more vernacular terms, we offer Mass in English and in Latin using rubrics that were codified in the 1500s.  Having both forms at our parish shows us to look forward while holding on to our roots.

What else makes us different? Many visitors and our faithful parishioners say that they always feel welcomed at Star of the Sea. We have a vibrant community! Star of the Sea is family of families.
