Saint Carlo Acutis is recognized as the first Catholic saint of the millennial generation. His life is a powerful reminder that holiness is possible for everyone—especially young people—through ordinary life lived with extraordinary love for God. Carlo is widely loved for his joyful faith, devotion to the Eucharist, and desire to help others encounter Christ.

Early Life

Carlo was born in London, England on May 3, 1991, to Andrea Acutis and Antonia Salzano. Soon after his birth, his family moved to Milan, Italy, where Carlo grew up. From a young age, he showed a deep interest in the Catholic faith and a sincere love for prayer. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and ability to connect with others, especially those who felt overlooked.

Faith and Mission

Carlo had a special devotion to the Holy Eucharist, which he called his “highway to heaven.” His faith shaped the way he lived each day—with humility, joy, and a desire to do good. He encouraged others to attend Mass, pray, and live with purpose. Carlo’s witness continues to inspire Catholics around the world, particularly young people who see in him a modern example of holiness.

Death

Carlo died of leukemia on October 12, 2006, in Monza, Italy, at only 15 years old. Even during his illness, he offered his suffering to God, remaining peaceful and trusting. He was later buried in Assisi, Italy, at St. Mary Major’s “Chapel of the Stripping,” a place connected with Saint Francis and the call to follow Christ more closely.

Beatification and Canonization

Pope Francis beatified Carlo on October 10, 2020. He was later canonized in Rome on September 7, 2025, by Pope Leo XIV, officially being declared a saint of the Catholic Church.

A Saint for Our Time

Saint Carlo Acutis reminds us that sanctity is not reserved for the few—it is the calling of everyone. His life shows that faith can be lived fully in the modern world, with joy, simplicity, and love. Today, he continues to inspire people to grow closer to Christ and to live with hope, courage, and charity.
