SUMMARY:English Sung Mass
DESCRIPTION:Sung Mass (Novus Ordo – 1970 Roman Rite) – Confessions during Mass\n\nAt Star of the Sea Parish\, we celebrate a Sung Novus Ordo Mass according to the 1970 Roman Calendar. Offered with sacred music\, chant\, and solemnity\, this celebration of the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite draws the faithful into the beauty and reverence of the Church’s worship. \nCelebrated ad orientem\, with priest and people facing the same direction—toward the Lord—the Mass expresses a shared turning toward God. Sacred chant and music elevate the liturgy\, fostering prayerful participation and contemplation of the mystery of the Holy Eucharist. \nThrough the proclamation of the Word and the offering of the Eucharistic sacrifice\, the faithful are invited into a deeper encounter with Christ\, who speaks to His people and nourishes them with His Body and Blood. \n

SUMMARY:Lauds
DESCRIPTION:Lauds (Morning Prayer) is part of the Divine Office\, also known as the Liturgy of the Hours\, the Church’s daily prayer. Prayed in the morning\, Lauds sanctifies the start of the day through psalms\, Scripture\, and intercessions\, uniting the faithful with the universal prayer of the Church. \n“As is clear from many of the elements that make it up\, morning prayer is intended and arranged to sanctify the morning. St. Basil the Great gives an excellent description of this character in these words: “It is said in the morning in order that the first stirrings of our mind and will may be consecrated to God and that we may take nothing in hand until we have been gladdened by the thought of God\, as it is written: ‘I was mindful of God and was glad’ (Ps 77:4 [Jerome’s translation from Hebrew])\, or set our bodies to any task before we do what has been said: ‘I will pray to you\, Lord\, you will hear my voice in the morning; I will stand before you in the morning and gaze on you’ (Ps 5:4-5).” \n“Celebrated as it is as the light of a new day is dawning\, this hour also recalls the resurrection of the Lord Jesus\, the true light enlightening all people (see Jn 1:9) and “the sun of justice” (Mal 4:2)\, “rising from on high” (Lk 1:78). Hence\, we can well understand the advice of St. Cyprian: “There should be prayer in the morning so that the resurrection of the Lord may thus be celebrated” (GILH\, no. 38).

SUMMARY:Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul – Latin Sung Mass (Missa Cantata)
DESCRIPTION:The Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul is celebrated at Star of the Sea with a Sung Traditional Latin Mass.  This great feast honors the two chief Apostles\, pillars of the Church\, who bore witness to Christ through their preaching and martyrdom in Rome. \nSt. Peter\, chosen by Christ as the rock upon which the Church is built\, and St. Paul\, the Apostle to the Gentiles\, together proclaim the universality and unity of the Church. Though different in mission\, they are united in faith\, in charity\, and in their total gift of self to Christ: “I have fought the good fight\, I have finished the race\, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). \nThrough the sacred prayers and chant of the Traditional Roman Rite\, the faithful are invited to contemplate the apostolic foundation of the Church and to renew their own fidelity to Christ and His teachings. Their witness calls all believers to courage\, perseverance\, and unwavering faith. \nIn this solemn celebration\, the Church rejoices in the triumph of these Apostles and seeks their intercession\, that we too may remain steadfast in faith and united in Christ. \nAll are warmly invited to participate in this joyful and solemn feast.

SUMMARY:Vespers
DESCRIPTION:Vespers (Evening Prayer) is part of the Divine Office\, also known as the Liturgy of the Hours\, the Church’s daily prayer. Prayed in the evening\, Vespers offers praise and thanksgiving through psalms\, Scripture\, and intercessions\, sanctifying the close of the day. \nVespers is a fifteen-minute prayer service of hymns\, readings\, and intercessions done every evening by priests and sisters\, but more and more laity is joining them. It is a special prayer because it is said by people all around the world and every hour throughout the day\, due to time changes\, the hours are prayed. In the Liturgy of the Hours\, the Church fulfills Jesus’ command to “pray always” (Luke 18:1; see also 1 Thessalonians 5:17). Through this prayer\, the people of God sanctify the day by continual praise of God and prayers of intercession for the needs of the world. \nEvening Prayer (Vespers) begins with the Sign of the Cross\, a call for God’s help\, and a hymn appropriate to the liturgical season. It continues with the Psalmody\, consisting of psalms and a New Testament canticle\, each introduced by an antiphon and followed by a brief moment of silence.\nA Scripture reading is then proclaimed\, followed by a short responsory. The heart of Evening Prayer is the Gospel Canticle\, the Magnificat (Canticle of Mary)\, prayed with special reverence and introduced by an antiphon.\nThe prayer continues with intercessions for the Church and the world\, the Lord’s Prayer\, and a concluding prayer. The celebration ends with a blessing and dismissal\, sending the faithful forth in peace.

SUMMARY:The Most Holy Face Devotion
DESCRIPTION:The Most Holy Face Devotion – every Tuesday in the Adoration Chapel. \nThe Devotion to the Most Holy Face of Jesus is a beautiful tradition in the Church that calls us to contemplate the Face of Christ\, especially during His Passion\, and to offer acts of love and reparation for sins committed against God. \nThis devotion was promoted in the 19th century by Sr. Mary of St. Peter\, a Carmelite nun in Tours\, France\, who encouraged prayers of reparation for blasphemy and for the profanation of the Lord’s Day. The devotion later received ecclesiastical approval\, and the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face was established by Pope Leo XIII in 1885.\nThrough this devotion\, we seek to console the Heart of Jesus\, honor His Holy Name\, and grow in deeper love and reverence for Our Lord.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ
DESCRIPTION:The Feast of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated at Star of the Sea with a Sung Traditional Latin Mass. This sacred feast honors the Blood of Christ\, poured out for the redemption of the world and the remission of sins. \nIn the mystery of the Precious Blood\, the Church contemplates the infinite love of Christ\, who offered Himself as the spotless Lamb for our salvation. Through His Blood\, we are cleansed\, reconciled\, and restored to grace: “You were ransomed… with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18–19).\nThrough the sacred prayers and chant of the Traditional Roman Rite\, the faithful are invited to meditate on the sacrifice of the Cross made present in the Holy Mass\, and to draw nearer to the fountain of mercy and redemption. \nIn this solemn and prayerful celebration\, the Church gives thanks for the saving Blood of Christ and seeks the grace to live in holiness\, redeemed and strengthened by His sacrifice. \nAll are warmly invited to participate in this sacred feast.

SUMMARY:English Mass
DESCRIPTION:Daily Low Mass (Novus Ordo – 1970 Roman Rite) – Confessions 15 min before Mass \nAt Star of the Sea Parish\, we celebrate Daily Mass according to the 1970 Roman Calendar (Novus Ordo). These Low Masses offer a quiet and prayerful setting for daily worship\, inviting the faithful to encounter Christ in simplicity and reverence. \nCelebrated ad orientem\, the priest and faithful together turn toward the Lord\, placing God at the center of the liturgy. The more intimate and contemplative nature of the Low Mass allows for deeper reflection on the Word of God and a more personal participation in the Holy Sacrifice. \nIn this sacred silence and simplicity\, the faithful are nourished by the Eucharist and strengthened in grace\, carrying the fruits of the Mass into their daily lives.
