Mariella Zevallos is the Founder and Director of the Marian Art Exhibition at Star of the Sea Parish. She has been actively involved in developing this initiative for the past 5 years, to foster devotion to Virgin Mary and to promote religious artistic creativity specially in young children. These exhibits feature Marian artwork made by the student body of the Stella Maris Academy (Star of the Sea parochial school), as well as the parish children and local artists who are invited to submit Marian artwork.

Mariella presented the First Marian Art Exhibition in May 2022, featuring the Stella Maris Academy children’s art made in class as part of their art curriculum program. She worked in collaboration with Mrs. Jacqueline Jacobi, former SMA Art teacher, who thought Art to the children for the first and Second Marian Art Exhibitions in 2022 and 2023. Last year Mrs. Marilyn Bridon joined the Art team, helping the children to produce the Marian Art pieces for the May 2024 Exhibit.

This year, the parish is proud to present the Fourth Annual Marian Art Exhibition in May 2025, featuring the art work of the Stella Maris Academy students, as well as beautiful art pieces of local artists.

Her Face: Images of the Virgin Mary in Art portrays the life of the mother of Christ with nearly 100 full-page, color reproductions of the Virgin’s face as depicted by the world’s greatest artists from the twelfth century to the present. These compelling images are accompanied by selections from early to modern sacred and secular texts. Viewed together in this unique pictorial narrative, the life-sized portraits of Mary illuminate her dual nature as virgin and mother, mortal woman and immortal Queen of Heaven with a rare vitality, immediacy, and intensity that other collections lack.
