SUMMARY:Walk to Mary
DESCRIPTION:For the past several years\, we have organized the “Walk to Mary” on the First Saturday in May\, the same day the original Walk to Mary began 13 years ago in Wisconsin at the shrine of Our Lady of Champion. \nAt Star of the Sea\, pilgrims gather at 11:00 a.m. in the parish schoolyard\, and we begin our walking pilgrimage—praying the Rosary rain or shine—to the Carmelite Chapel and Monastery of Cristo Rey (721 Parker Ave.\, San Francisco\, CA). The 1.5-mile walk begins at Star of the Sea Parish (4420 Geary Blvd.\, San Francisco\, CA). \nUpon arrival\, we celebrate a Traditional Latin Sung Mass at 12:00 noon. Our pastor\, Fr. Joseph Illo\, leads this beautiful walk and serves as the celebrant of the Mass.

DESCRIPTION:For several years now\, we have held the “Walk to Mary” on the First Saturday of May. When we arrive at the Carmelite Chapel and Monastery of Cristo Rey\, we celebrate a Traditional Latin Sung Mass. Our pastor\, Fr. Joseph Illo\, serves as the celebrant of the Mass.\n\nIn 1917\, amid the suffering of World War I\, Our Lady of Fatima appeared to three shepherd children and asked that the First Saturday Devotion be promoted as a path to peace in the world and peace in our hearts. With a mother’s urgency\, she warned that many souls are lost because there is too little prayer and sacrifice offered for them.\nThis devotion calls the faithful to offer acts of prayer and reparation—prayers offered in atonement for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It includes four essential practices: \n\nAttending Mass and receiving Holy Communion\nMaking a good confession\nPraying the Holy Rosary in reparation for sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary\nSpending 15 minutes meditating\, with Our Lady\, on the mysteries of the Rosary and the Word of God\n\nThrough this devotion\, Our Lady invites us to conversion\, deeper prayer\, and renewed trust in God’s mercy\, so that peace may take root in our hearts and spread throughout the world.

SUMMARY:Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Latin Sung Mass
DESCRIPTION:The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated at Star of the Sea with a Sung Traditional Latin Mass. This great feast proclaims that the Blessed Virgin Mary\, having completed her earthly life\, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. \nIn this mystery\, the Church contemplates the fulfillment of God’s promise and the victory of grace in Mary\, who was preserved from sin and remained perfectly faithful to His will. As the Mother of God\, she now shares fully in the glory of her Son\, offering a sign of hope and consolation to the faithful: “All generations will call me blessed” (Luke 1:48). \nThrough the sacred prayers and chant of the Traditional Roman Rite\, the faithful are invited to lift their hearts toward Heaven\, where Our Lady reigns as Queen\, interceding for the Church and guiding her children to Christ. \nIn this solemn and joyful celebration\, the Church honors the glory of the Blessed Virgin Mary and seeks her intercession\, that we too may one day share in the resurrection and the life of Heaven. \nAll are warmly invited to participate in this great feast of the Church.
